Fight over Effluent in Pima County July/August, 2007 |
|
The value of effluent came center-stage in Pima County, Arizona, when the City of Marana sought to withdraw from a governmental agreement with Pima County and take control of the Marana Treatment Plant (owned by Pima County) and all its effluent. The county responded by making the treatment plant a park to prevent a take-over. The City of Tucson joined the fray with a threat to cut off water to parts of Marana that it supplies if Marana claims the effluent from these area. Marana wants the effluent in order to meet state-mandated requirements for renewable water sources to support growth.
